November is Innovation Month is Mississippi! And Kids Code Mississippi is hosting a special contest to help show-off all the creative and digital talent of Mississippi youth.

This contest is open to all Mississippi classrooms in grades 6 – 8. We ask that this project be worked on in a classroom setting and submitted as a classroom (not individual) entry. Multiple entries from schools are allowed, but it is limited to one per classroom.

Well, it’s fairly simple. Using the open-source coding platform Scratch, your class will create a game/app designed to feature the great places and attractions in Mississippi. Think about it from the perspective of a tourist to the state. What would people want to see and learn more about. What are some of the “hidden gems” most folks don’t know about Mississippi? How do you get to these places?

Participating classes should document their work and submit your entry below. This can be in the form of a video, written document, or mixed media. It’s up to YOU, so get creative! The final game/app will be posted by us to the Kids Code Mississippi website. The criteria for judging includes the creativity of the app and the use of code in developing it.

The contest period officially begins Monday, November 9th. All entries must be received by Kids Code Mississippi by 5PM on Tuesday, November 24th. Winners will be announced on December 4th, 2015.

Two runner-up winners will receive an MCM Electronics Raspberry Pi 2 Model B starter kits.

The Grand Prize winner will receive a LEGO┬« MINDSTORMS┬« Education EV3 Core Set with Software Pack for your classroom! Plus, your project will be posted to the Kids Code Mississippi “hall of fame” on our website! #FamousCode
